Filesystem corrupts after power failure 2362I have three systems at home using ext3. Having been the one who discovered the kernel panic local DoS issue fixed by the 2.6.12-25mdk kernel, I have seen MANY kernel panics the past few weeks due to testing of many kernels and a few mistakes on my part. The kernel panic is effectively the same thing as a sudden power failure, because the system does not sync the disks. I always force fsck on boot (except when I'm not fast enough on the keyboard--and in that case, I reboot with -F to force an fsck). I had no problems with file system corruption after all these panic recoveries. Based on other postings in this thread, it's starting to look like you might have some hardware weaknesses. FWIW, I would second the recommendations to boot from CD or DVD. A remastered Knoppix or Mandriva Live-One might be suitable. Side note: I would suggest dropping the "Linux is worse than Windows" line you keep repeating. There are so many trolls in this newsgroup that repeating that line just might cause the people who could really help you to mistake you as a troll and plonk you. Filesystem corrupts after power failure 2363 Unruh They are *mainly* firewalls, but some do other small things as well, (eg hylafax, small mail server, small amount of proxy caching etc) so not sure if a read only system would work... -- Robert Riches (Yes, that is one of my email addresses.)
