Firewall security: Problems with simple Samba file share 3590But either they are not running vulnerable services, or they are. If they are, and they have a f-w, then the f-w has holes in to let access to the servers through. So the f-w does nothing for them. IF they have a f-w, they must make holes in it for their servers, so the f-w does nothing for them. They will make holes in the f-w in order to let the servers work. One hole for ftp, one for http, one for ssh, one for domain, one for ... whatever.
Probability, was Firewall security: Problems with simple Samba file share But not a successful one. I really wish people would understand stats. Amen. Uh uh. It's simply true. I'm sure you can. Friend of... That's advanced server usage, and your users are not that savvy. If they were that savvy, they would not be doing what they are doing, or they would be using a f-w. The nonsavvy people are not running servers or they have made holes in their f-w to allow access to their servers.
Whatever it is called in their distro, then.. Firewall security: Problems with simple Samba file share 3591 Yes - but the holes might be slim. IOW: They might only allow certain subnets through. Yes, it does. It limits the range of hosts that can successfully...
We are. And no firewall restricts access to ssh because the whole point of ssh is to allow communications from insecure remote hosts, securely.
They can see it.
I am not - I am not particular about the name of their update utility.
Probability, was Firewall security: Problems with simple Samba file share Peter T. Breuer It does NOT. An exploit can be specific to your machine and inapplicable to anyone but you. It's still an exploit. But this stupid arguing over terminology and semantics is so... Because it is a windows defense, against a windows problem. Linux does not have that problem. There is no firewall on my machine and never has been (I just checked and the techs say that they have just lately been screening the ports I mentioned in my other post, and I have asked them to stop doing it for my area).
