Flash Player 9 beta availableYes, but make sure you can use it. It's not ready for all Linux distros and may never run on some others. I installed on Slackware 10.1 as a plugin for Mozzy 1.7.5. Sorry Charlie! I hit U2B and it didn't work worth a damn. Vids come up, but major time jerks (1-3secs) and no audio at all make FP9 on my box useless. I went back to FP 7 which works fine (wsome minor quibbles). According to Adobe, you need one of these: Audio software for live improvisation I use Reason live . . . it's really great for live use . . . totally stable (I've never had a crash), and... "Operating systems and browsers--Flash Player 9 Update beta for Linux is supported on the following operating systems and browsers: * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3, Update 8 * Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4, Update 4 (AS-ES-WS) * SUSE Linux 9.x or 10.1 * Firefox 1.5.0.7 * Mozilla Seamonkey 1.0.5"
Linux and audio Here is what a Linux user is up against Shuttle SN25P Sound I just bought a new machine a few days ago and lo and behold, the sound isn't supported yet. It's the onboard sound... Note also the steep Hardware requirements: " * Modern Processor (at least 800 MHz) * 512MB of RAM * Alsa Sound Architecture (OSS-ESD will not play audio; audio will silently fail.) * Graphics Memory (128MB)" Yikes! I fail on every front except system RAM. This may be why U2B vids play was so jerky. So much for using FP9 on the much ballyhooed advantage of Linux, that it runs great on older hardware. Once again it appears the software-hardware cabal moves to force an upgrade to new hardware. nb |
