Forward slashes in filenames 2898In a message on Sat, 05 Feb 2005 19:12:09 -0600, wrote : Actually not -- the '-'s used as file name separators are never stored in the file name part of the directory 'file'. The problem is when slashes occur as file *content*. Please explain how hotplug works in lay terms I run Slackware 9.1 with KDE. I have a cheapo Palm pilot and use Jpilot... Actually, there is a way to do this -- to misquote from Star Wars: "Use the source". Just poke through your kernel sources for the iso fs module and use that as a 'model' for a program (probably it will have to be in C) that 'walks' the proper directory tree of the temp.iso file, fixing *just the file names* stored in the directory files. That is a 'smart' binary editor. Another solution might be to beg, borrow, steal, etc. a Macinslosh with OS 9 and a an EtherNet connection (any IMac for example). Connect the Macinslosh to a Linux box with netatalk installed and make a suitable disk available to the Macinslosh. Use Chooser on the Macinslosh to connect to this disk and then drag the CD to the shared disk. I *believe* that netatalk can be convinced to do a filename character translation. Or maybe you can write some sort of AppleScript to copy the files, fixing the bad file names on the 'fly'.
