Frozen login screen in gaim 1.5.0 for unprivileged user+Alan Hicks+ No, I found out it was a permissions issue due to running gaim in a tmpfs file system environment. I'm pasting the following from my other post, for completeness' sake. Groups: comp.os.linux.setup First of all, thank you very much for offering your help. I finally got to the bottom of it and not it's working just fine. Parallels Workstation, alternative to Win4Lin I just tried a new Virtual Machine manager, Parallels Workstation. I've been using Win4Lin for many years but Win4Lin9x seems to have reached the end of... I'll explain... First, let me say that I run a minimalistic version of slackware 10.2, kernel 2.6.13.2 on a tmpfs file system (built through the happen to be related to gaim *in a tmpfs environment* I solved it by moving the whole tmpfs system to an ext2 hard drive parbreastion (an orthodox linux install), booting it up with lilo, then installing gaim. Now gaim worked with the unprivileged user account. Next, I transfered the system again to tmpfs, and now everything works perfectly well. My mistake was in buttuming that gaim would install just fine in a tmpfs environment, which it does NOT for unprivileged user accounts. It was my initial experimental step before rebuilding the tmpfs with gaim incorporated in it. My buttumption that this mustn't have been the issue came from the fact that all the other programs I had installed so far had no relevant issues with being installed and then run in a tmpfs environment. What helped me pinpoint the problem was running strace on gaim and finding there lots of permissions problems...
