Future direction for Linux 4510
At the risk of sounding irritable, what's in it for us? If you have a staggeringly valuable idea, step away from Usenet, get funding, and, well... shut up and code. Your questions and suggestions are tendentious and rest on erroneous buttumptions. If I seem annoyed (below), it's nothing personal: We codgers just wish people like you would bother to do their homework, first.
Although those are both the sort of thing that will be enjoyed by those who enjoy that sort of thing (quoth A. Lincoln), and though there's nothing wrong with them, neither is specifically targeted at the novice user. What is, you ask? Consult Distrowatch: Lots about MS-Windows, including some buttertions that strike me as extremely bogus, but which I will not waste time debating on a Linux newsgroup, snipped.
Huh? I've been using my TiVo for the better part of a decade, and not used those commands there even once. Don't tell me you didn't know that every TiVo is a full-blown Linux computer with a simplified user interface for its specialised role. You did know that, didn't you?
Not as tutorials -- since, as everyone knows, manpages are quick references (not even full references). Complaining that manpages make poor tutorials makes about as much sense as unpleasant womaning that your Aston-Martin has poor flight characteristics compared to your Cessna. In other words, you would be making a category error.
Thank you for not making the list go on and on. Unfortunately, your point was a bit moronic, along with being clear. Users who would be happier staying within graphical shells should stay within graphical shells. They exist -- and not just on TiVos.
"What is the use of a newborn child?" -- B. Franklin environments targeted at novice users, start over. *cough* Future direction for Linux 08-21-2005 ITYM urban legends. That has not been my experience. Untrue. BAT files are not generally where configuration data are... As the expression goes, "Shut up and code."
