Allan Adler

It would nice if you could provide information-profile of your computer -- this could help -- infact every user use do this.

One of the main problem you will face is the MBR. Once you have Installed Dos or even Windows. You will loss GRUB from MBR. Meaning Windows-Dos will start and jump to C:-. You need to use your CD tools - or - bootable floppy to reload grub.

Make sure you have a bootable linux floppy -- or -- you know how to install grub BACK into mbr using tool from your distro's CD-DVD. Once you have over come this obstacle -- everything is easy.

If you want to install freedos indev-hda1. You need to formatdev-hda1 it first.

Using linux command 'mkfs.Vfatdev-hda1'

'mount -t vfatdev-hda1mnt-dos' or mountdev-hda1mnt-hda1

(add this inetc-fstab) then you only have to type mountmnt-hda1

GRUB question 2253
Pardon my naivete, but is the tilde part of what you added toboot-grub-menu.lst ? Also, if the DOS...

--------- Warning --------- When formating your parbreastion be EXTREMELY sure that you're indeed formatting the parbreastion. Don't type "mkfs.reiserfsdev-hda" if all you want to do is formatdev-hda4 reiserfs. That would formatdev-hda completely, which would make you a very unhappy person I'm sure. ---------------------------

Use freedos bootable CD -- You do have freedos on a bootable CD -- right?

Reboot your computer - make sure bootable freedos cd is in dvd-drive (or cd)

See if you can get in C:-- make some directory, copy some files, and then delete -- also use 'scandisk c:'

GRUB question 2252
Allan Adler missive deleted for brevity Okay, I decided to try following method on my computer. I formated mydev-hda1 in linux console. I typed: 'mkfs.vfatdev-hda1' I...

Make sure linux formated vfat is working in dos.

If you can not because linux format c:is not good enough for freedos -- then format it using dos commands -- 'format c:-'

Install Dos, FreeDos disk comes with instruction. Also check their website. If you have a printer -- print the info.

Restart the computer - normally it should take you in c:

GRUB question 2251
I'm not sure exactly what I told it beyond the file system type, but I do remember...

-- if you messed it up -- don't ask me for help -- seriously!!!

Now, if you want reload grub - you need to type'grub-installdev-hda'.

Ps: I would like know how other users would do this task.

---- fun note ----

Back when I wanted to play dos game -- I decided to install dos in mydev-hda2

Mydev-hda2 was formated in vfat -- I booted my windows 95b cd -- typed 'sys a: d:' -- reload linux -- adddev-hda2 in my grubboot-grub-menu.lst

# Windows 95b

breastle Windows 95b -- Dos root (hd0,1) savedefault makeactive chainloader +1 -----------------------

I was successful. However, now 200mmx "Clbuttic Pentium 1" is being used as a server :)
