Gnome file window keeps popping up 759Thanks for all the help with my problem. Now that I know I can escape from Gnome with the keyboard when I need to, I don't mind using it in the future. The particular computer I mentioned is a HP Pavilion. I once opened it up thinking I would move its hard drive to another PC and found that the insides of the machine are so cramped and the HD so tightly bound that I gave up rather than risk damaging anything. Maybe it isn't as bad as it seemed to me. I once built a PC from scratch out of components, so I don't think I'm squeamish about stuff like that but I'm uncomfortable with this HP Pavilion for some reason. Anyway, that is why I'm not sure I'll ever replace the board that the mouse plugs into. I tried cleaning the mouse with alcohol, but I'm less experienced at cleaning mice and maybe I didn't do it right. I think that if Kudzu keeps coming up during bootup and telling me the mouse is not attached, even though it is, that the problem is more likely to lie with the board. Unfortunately, I don't have another machine that I can use to test mice. -- Ignorantly, * Disclaimer: I am a guest and *not* a member of the MIT CSAIL.
