Going To University Leave Linux Home! It's Not Supported! 4562On Thursday 25 August 2005 01:19, Josh stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes...:
Ever heard of *WineX* ? It's awinewith support for DirectX. Ever heard of win4lin? It's a virtual machine that allows you to run Windows on top of a Gnu-Linux system. Ever heard of VMWare? It's a virtual machine that allows you to run any IA32 OS on top of Gnu-Linux. As for QuickTime, there are plenty of multi-platform players among the documents can be opened withKOfficeorOpenOfficeor even converted to HTML via other tools. Macromedia Flash plugins exist for just about every platform, including Gnu-Linux. You won't know that until you've tried. Plain text would never be an issue on any platform. MS-Office documents - as said above - can be viewed, edited and saved on Gnu-Linux without any problem. You? *You* shouldn't. Only people who care should try to use it, and that is clearly not the case for you. Administrators of Windows networks are typically the last people in the world you want to get advice on Gnu-Linux from. We never said it was. If you cared to have read my other posts - I don't even remember whether it was in reply to you or to another troll - then you would know that Gnu-Linux is a client-server multi-user operating system designed for minicomputers and ported to the microcomputer architecture. Re:proc and udev Kevin the Drummer Udev was supposed to be able to lock a given device to a given driver and process. This... You would also know all of the above if you had taken out the trouble of opening up your Internet ExploDer and done a Google search for Gnu-Linux related topics, starting with the obvious websites. Microsoft Windows is a commercially vended and thus aggressively marketed and advertised application platform for microcomputers, based upon outdated technical concepts. It is *not* comparable to Gnu-Linux in any way, and Gnu-Linux was never intended to be a compebreastor for Microsoft Windows. You're comparing cats and dogs. Won't work. Different species. So? Unlike Microsoft, the FSF and OSDL are not forcing Gnu-Linux onto people via all available legal and paralegal means. *We* leave you the choice on what to use. Your post is already a clear troll even forcomp.os.linux.advocacy. I can understand that itmaybe on-topic inalt.os.windows.xp,provided that said group debates advocacy. Posting Windows propaganda or anti-Gnu-Linux drivel is however *totally* *inappropriate* for groups likealt.os.linux.mandrake,-alt.os.linux.suseandcomp.os.linux.misc. Going To University Leave Linux Home! It's Not Supported! 4564 Josh Although I graduated in computer science 30 years ago, I can give you several reasons. There is a steep learning curve, to be sure, but then there... Either your convictions are too narrow-minded to think about what Gnu-Linux is, what it was intended for or how you can get it to work for you - in which case I would strongly advise you to stick to Microsoft Windows, for your own benefit - or you are deliberately attempting to troll, i.e. to rub a few people against the hairs while enjoying yourself over that. Going To University Leave Linux Home! It's Not Supported! 4563 Two things.. First you really are just trolling.. Second your inability to use linux is the problem, not the software. It's no different then someone who has always driven an... I strongly suspect the latter, but I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt. So either your next post will be a technical post about Gnu-Linux in which you seek buttistance, or it will be the post that will render you a cozy place in mykill-file- and undoubtedly in that of many others. And just in case you are on the payroll for Microsoft Corp., then I hope you sold your soul for a *lot* of money. That way, you can slowly spend that money and enjoy playing with it for a while longer. After all, the money is something you will have while you're sitting all alone in your dark room, watching your blue screen of rest and wondering why nobody in the world takes you seriously anymore. It's up to you. Have a nice day! -- With kind regards, *Aragorn* (Registered Gnu-Linux user #223157)
