Grub is unable to boot my reiserfs type Linux root, whyI recently installed ubuntu using a knoppix live cd. After I rebooted, I noticed that I could not boot my Linux root (reiserfs). It gave me the following error: root (hd1,0) filesystem type unknown, parbreastion type 0xF, error 17: Cannot mount selected parbreastion. Improve modem connection under heavy disk activity Hi, My modem internet connection suffers badly under heavy disk activity - it is practically impossible to complete any connection and data flow stalls. I presume that this is due to data being dropped while the... This parbreastion that I am trying to boot is located within a SATA drive of 80 GB, which is the second drive out of two; the first drive is a PATA (-dev-hda) and I also havedev-hdc, a cdrom. After I encountered the problem, I thought that probably the name that I used (hd1,0) was wrong, or that I did not have support for the filesystem type. However, after compiling my own kernel as an alternative to the binary one provided with ubuntu, I realized that the kernel support was not the problem; I was even more convinced after noticing that the kernel provided by ubuntu has a reiserfs module. buttuming that the kernel did not have anything to do with the problem, I proceeded to investigate Grub and I found in that the error I was getting was because, somehow, grub could not recognize the parbreastion and they suggested, as I thought, to recheck the naming used. After rechecking the name and find in that it was (hd1,0), the same one I had, I decided to look for help in freenode.org and on google. Having not found anything, I decided to write this message. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks. Iv‡n F.
