My point is that if you have the skill to code a GUI from scratch you certainly have the skill to download an operating system and not have to pay for it, in which case Windows is the obvious choice (mostly because it's the largest development platform, it has the most options as far as software capability). And likewise, if you're running a company, well, Windows is not even going to be a drop in the bucket when you consider all the other costs for your business (and not just computer related).

Really the only "problem" would arise from those with 'I art holier than thou" ethics or those looking for a cause, trying to define a piece of software as "the enemy" and developing conspiracies based on ignorant misconceptions and buttumptions for why they can't use it. In either event both those sorts of people are LOOKING to have a problem and really aren't going to be pleased one way or the other, so you really shouldn't bother with them.

The other problem is that even if you produced your own GUI you would still have mbuttive compatibility issues and it'd be attempting to force software makers to double their efforts for the same profit in an extremely stupid attempt to make their stuff cross-compatible. It's sort of like VHS and BETA...one HAD to go, because it was forcing movie makers to have to port their movie on two separate forms, which required twice as much outsourcing for the same potential profit. This is also why many movie companies are now dropping the VHS format and only producing DVDs, it is simply more cost effective.

The bottom line is that there simply is NO POINT in attempting to turn Linux into a rip-off of Windows.
