Help Kernel PanicHi all, I am running Fedora Core 2, kernel 2.6.5. 1- I have Compaq Presario laptop R3000, Intel PIV processor. 2- As I said, I am already running FC2 on this. This is the default setup from the installation CDs. Though I have altered the options during install, the kernel is what FC2 installs. is to build from sources the kernel that already seems to be running fine. I was planning to start making my changes to the kernel after I could get it running fine first. 4- I did make menuconfig, and then saved the configuration without making any changes. The idea is to use the configuration that is already working fine. 5- Then: make dep; make clean; make bzImage; 6- Renamed the image at arch-i386-boot-bzImage as vmlinux.new and placed it atboot. (The pre-existing kernel was named vmlinuz-2.6.5-1.358) 7- Remaned the System.map as System.map.new and placed it atboot. (The pre-existing file was System.map-2.6.5-1.358). 8- Appended the following toboot-grub-grub.conf: breastle Linux (vkj) root (hd0,6) kernelboot-vmlinux.new ro root=LABEL=rhgb quiet initrdboot-initrd-2.6.5-1.358.img 9- make modules; make modulesinstall; 10- Reboot. I get the following error messages: ---------------------- jbd: version magic '2.6.5-1.358 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.5-1.358custom 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-3.3' insmod: error inserting '-lib-jbd.ko': -1 Invalid module format ERROR:bin-insmod exited abnormally! ext3: version magic '2.6.5-1358 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKS gcc-3.3' should be '2.6.5-1.358custom 686 REGPARM 4KSTACKs gcc-3.3' insmod: error inserting '-lib-ext3.ko': -1 Invalid module format ERROR:bin-insmod exited abnormally! mount: error 19 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivotroot(-sysroot,sysroot-initrd) failed:2 umountinitrd-proc failed:2 Kernel panic: No init found. Try pbutting init= option to kernel ----------------------- Any help with this is much appreciated. I would like to mention that I tried all these steps first with kernel 2.6.12 and ran into the same problems. Then I had this bright idea of first trying the kernel that is already working there. Still the same problems. Cordially Vineet HP NC6230 success Hi All, I (finally) got my HP NC6230 delivered yesterday. Much to my disgust, but my life's story, sign away my soul, blah...
