It's funny because I can even understand some of it :-) But that's only after a 20+ hours crash course in Linux installation on an oldworld mac. Trial by fire :-( Thank goodness for the internet!

I am absolutely (and I mean absolutely) new to Linux-unix. Although I once did get around fairly well in Dos, having started on a cpm-86-dos machine. The problem I was having is because the perimeters on my machine (ide v scsi) were different and I didn't have enough familiarity with linux syntax and file structure to determine what I had.

I have, since I made my post, managed to load linux on this machine, although the distribution disk doesn't seem to be finished with the installation. On reboot it brings me to a command prompt and I have no idea how to make continue. But this has to be a unbuntu thing so I will continue to bark up their tree :-)

The thing with the oldworld mac is that because of the way the ROM is set up you can't simple put a CD in and start up the install. I had to inialize the disk, create a hfs parbreastion and load a basic mac os. Then I installed bootx on the mac and this allowed me to load the linux install and then linux had to be configured to boot to mac run diskx and load linux.
