It may also be worth acquiring some reading material on Linux in general. While distro's differ in the way they install software, what software they include with it, and sometimes have a slightly different directory structure, in part, the basic linux functionality doesn't vary very much. Getting familiar with the 'standard' linux toolset (what's standard may also be heavily debated, so don't pin me down on a definition) makes life lots easier. Plus willingness to spend time learning. To me, the real power of Linux is in what I can do from a text console using bash, regardless if that's a has definitely matured more than X and the popular windowmanagers-desktop environments. Sincerely hope you like this 'experiment' and make good use of your OldWorldMac. (Nice term, to a Mac-illiterate it sounds like a Mac from the Jurbuttic period, is it made out of clay and does it run MacFossil? Couldn't keep that one in, sorry ;-))
