Holy poo Does Linux SUCK

Well.. as far as out of the box hardware, I would have to agree. Linux generally does suck (compared to the others)

HOWEVER:

Do you know if your devices are open-standards based? It is often difficult for linux developers to write device drivers for hardware that is closed in nature. (manufacturers not wanting to release specs)

Can VMWare use an already installed Windows

On the brighter side, linux does allow an extremely high degree of hardware tweaking. You can write your own drivers if you want, modify them, do whatever you want. It's about freedom.

Probably a graphics hardware thing. (graphic cards are a pain, IMO)

Linux...Great if you have tons of free time and a tolerance for unstable APPLICATIONS
Sure the Linux kernel is stable. It sure could use a little GUI in ring 0...

Linux is (IMO) for people who are into freedom, for people who don't like an OS that tells them what to do. Saddly, new distributions are beginning to be overly-glitsy so it's difficult to do these things.

My favorite by far is slackware, BUT it does require tweaking. Don't expect to pop a CD in and instantly have the best system, it's not that easy.

Once tweaked, linux rocks. It's tweaking and researching that are the hard parts. Quite rewarding once it's done though. It doesn't "hide" stuff from you, you can set it up however you want. Kind of like an unfinished basement.

Hardware is it's biggest hbuttle though.
