No, it isn't, but it's related to it in a way. ;-) OS-X is built upon Darwin, which is in turn partly based upon FreeBSD.

There is however software that exists in both operating system flavors - i.e. the *BSD's and GNU-Linux - namely things likebashandglibc,or theX11system, orApacheet al. It's just a matter of compiling the source code into binaries on the target system.

The bottom line is that GNU-Linux and OS-X are cousins. ;-)
Software supplied as source code should compile well on both platforms. Software supplied as binary code only however is not compatible with both operating systems. Think of it as two different dialects of the same language, albeit that it's a bit more complicated than that.
Doesn't work that way. DVDs are encrypted with the lame CSS algorithm. It's so lame, that it was broken within months after the first software DVD player software...
Technically, OS-X should be able to run software available to GNU-Linux if that software is compiled for OS-X. OS-X does feature GNUbashas a commandline interpreter, for instance. ;-)
