How do I start Firefox 3385

I usually install tar stuff in usr-local I don't normally use an installer for the likes of firefox. What you should have done is if you did it to us-local for example.

1Download the tar 2open a terminal log in as su and type the root pbuttword 3mv the file to usr-local not in a terminal tab is your friend. for instance I would type mv fire hit tab ,it would complete the name if it is unique,usr-loc hit tab enter 4cd tousr-local 5untar the installer as you did 6cd to the directory and do as you did, whenever I have used an installer it does give me the chance to choose a directory, did you do that. 7once you have run the installer, ls to see what is in there. enter. You have now created what is called a symbolic link. 10cd to your home directory...type firefox here and hit enter, if you have all the libraries etc it should work. if not it will tell you what is wrong.

Now that is a little complex and it's why I don't use installers..

I would download the fire*.tar.gz not the installer

mv it as above

1tar -zvxf fire*etc 2ls inside the directory to find the new directory usually firefox. 3if it's there cdusr-bin 4ln -susr-local-firefox-firefox 5cd to your home directory 7 firefox enter, it should run. 8if it all works create a shortcut on you desktop or use the run box ie alt-F2 an type firefox into the box to run it.

I know all this sounds a little daunting but it does get easier and once you get the hang of it you'll wonder why you ever thought it difficult. :)
