I don't know for sure. I haven't seen any major problems with JavaScript here (using Firefox 1.0, Mozilla before that) but YMMV. The only real problems I've ever had are when some "web designers" decided to make a useful site's search interface dependent on client-side Visual Baysick, even though the information the site was designed to distribute was all in PDF or HTML. And of course, it's not possible to view an index of the directory where all the PDF and HTML files are kepy, and all the PDF and HTML files are named things like "ZZabc01235.html". ( User-Agent.)

A site should be *usable* as a pure file tree, with no client- or server-side scripts required, even if the functionality available in that mode is less-ugly-confuses the PHBs.
