How2 fix IDE so that DOS can see hdc1 which linux can 4910
Since you've proposed a solution, you've acknowledged the problem ? I believe my MBRs and-or 1st partn-tbl are corrupted. OK, I had a bad feeling when I wrote 'hdc'. I know W? wants to be 'in front' on C:. When I sit at the linux box my brain knows the 1st IDE is hda. Now and usually my 'proper' OS Oberon 'says' eg: IDE2#32 47MB 76 Native Oberon, Aos IDE2#33 47MB 131 Linux fs IDE2#35 3906MB 131 Linux fs ... Perhaps this is it ?!! But if, as I've always done DOS is hda1, it automatically gets a 'good' starting cylinder ? How2 fix IDE so that DOS can see hdc1 which linux can 4911 Just wanted to clarify that their only "damaged", as far as dos is concerned. If you only create the first primary with dos-w98, and use another operating system... Thanks, I might do this if-when I get a new-cleaned IDE. But I'm convinced the problem is only with the MBR and-or 1st parbreastion-tbl. So a linux tool should be able to hack it without wiping all my other 38 parbreastions ? In future I'll always dd the MBR to a file.bak except there's still apparently the problem of the 2nd safety FAT is AFAIK not at a known-fix location ? There seem to be very few people who know the inners of the MBR and parbreastion-tbl. Revisions: Are You Ready for Linux On Tue, 04 Oct 2005 16:14:46 +0200 It's probably too easy to say that going from CLI to GUI is equivalent to going from language to pointing and grunting, but... I hate the lilo documentation. It need -ed last time I looked to be re-wriiten by a native english wordsmith ? == Chris Glur.
