How2 fix IDE so that DOS can see hdc1 which linux can 4911
Just wanted to clarify that their only "damaged", as far as dos is concerned.

If you only create the first primary with dos-w98, and use another operating system to created the extended parbreastion, the extended parbreastion will not be on a cylinder boundry, and being in the mbr's parbreastion table, this confuses dos. That's why I create the extended parbreastion, and first logical drive with dos's fdisk, even if I'm going to reuse the logical drive for another os.
In addition to changing the parbreastion table entry pointing to the first extended parbreastion, you'd have to actually move the parbreastion to where the table now points. Possible, but not easy. Be carefull about trying to delete-recreate that one parbreaston, as that will likely change the order of the existing parbreastions, and some utilities don't like having the sequnce of extended parbreastion, be different then the physical order.
The FAT is inside the dos parbreastion, not the mbr. In addition to backing up the mbr, you need to backup all of the extended parbreastion "parbreastion tables", and parts of the first sector of each "logical drive".
Having had to rebuild the entire parbreastion chain using a disk editor, for an hd with 14 parbreastions on it, that's why I strongly suggest deleting c:-windows-command-fdisk.exe, once you add any non M$ file systems(:.

You didn't specify whether you're using W98, or W98SE. If it's W98, keep in mind the boot parbreastion cannot exceed 2GB. W98 command prompt only, won't see larger parbreastions. The larger parbreastions only become visible after the windows vfat drivers get loaded, which won't happen, if the dos mode part of w98 can't see the parbreaston properly.
Personally I have no trouble with man lilo.conf, however that you may find more readable.
