IMAP folders when the user doesn't have a shellFreeBSD vs Linux 3471 That seems an excellent characterization of the sort of "practical" differences that will matter to people. I have coworkers that get really irritated any time they see "real... FreeBSD vs Linux 3473 Khaled I am a long time FreeBSD user, and I still use it for a lot of things, but I use linux for a lot of other things. They are similar in a lot...
Pretty small beers by commercial standards. I'll start by saying where we are, then get on to where we want to get to. Right now we have about five users who all access their email on one site. On that site, fetchmail gets email from two ISPs and delivers it to sendmail. None of the users have shell accounts on this Mandrake 8 Linux box. Sendmail delivers to Turnpike on their PCs using smtp, and each user and their aliases are configured in the sendmail alias file. This has been great while we've all been working on a single site, but we are now entering a phase where some of us will be working on two or three sites and moving between them. In the future I'm considering moving to scheme where the Linux box collects with fetchmail, and we use IMAP to access our mail from the Linux box that fetches it from any site. I'm not sure if we need sendmail at all in this scheme, though I suppose it might be handy to redirect aliased email addresses by smtp in some circumstances (?). I'm buttuming that regardless of which site they are on, users will be able to connect to the IMAP server on the mail fetching Linux box and view collect mail. I'm hoping that while most of the incoming mail can be deleted, some may be archived on the IMAP server so it can continue to be accessed and searched from any location. It would also be very useful if such archived messages could be searched efficiently from any location without having to download all the messages to the local machine. I'd also like to be able to sort the archived messages into folders corresponding to projects, jobs, admin tasks etc. Will the combination of fetchmail, possibly sendmail, cyrus imapd 2.0.17, and thunderbird do what I want ? If not, what are the problem areas ?
Huge linuxext3 fragmentation invarspoolmail using wuimapd seeking filesystem recommendation several months, our 4000 users have experienced great performance, but over the last three weeks, performance has degreated to the point of unusability... This looks really interesting ! Thanks.
Yes, had a look here but found it hard to know what would best meet the needs with the minimum of time input.
OK. I'm keen to use open source and protocols where I can.
Many thanks ! J-. -- John Beardmore
