IIRC, this is what jcva has in his system. ICBW, but I've heard of other people with nVidia fakeRAID boards talking about this.
This is not possible, because the fakeRAID is a RAID-0 (yuck) and jcva is unable to reinstall 'DozeXP in any configuration other than the one that was shipped with the machine. Sucks, but that's life.
So... the most realistic option for jcva is probably to obtain a real 'Doze install medium by whatever means are necessary. I hear P2P programs are useful in this regard. Then disable the fakeRAID in the BIOS, and reinstall 'Doze, keeping it on one disk. Then install Linux.
It's entirely possible that the manufacturer used the cheapest and nastiest IDE chipset they could find, since SATA is the future. Or the IDE chipset could just be shot....
? Anyway, jcva may wish to say who manufactured this x86, or who sold it to him, so everybody can know not to buy anything those idiots make.
