Virtual PC is for Mac. What you want is either VMware or Win4Lin.

Win4Lin hosts Win9x on top of Linux, it's relatively cheap and the Windows performance is as good as native Win9x. There is supposed to be a new version of Win4Lin that will support Win2K. The new version is due out any day now, in fact I was expecting it today but I don't see any mention of it on Netraverse's website. The downside of Win4Lin is that it's Win9x only (which as I said they are about to fixed). There is starting to be a problem with recent Windows applications not working on Win9x. For example Quickbooks 2005 won't run on Win4Lin even though the box claims that it's Win98 compatible, the older versions of Quickbooks ran just fine. If you want Win4Lin you should wait a few days for the new version to be released before you buy it.

Why wouldn't I do this with iptables
StupidScript The way I do iptables is to turn everything off and then enable just what I want enabled. I am very fussy about...

VMware allows you run simultaneous virtual machines, each with it's own OS. VMware can not only run any flavor of Windows on top of Linux, but it can also run multiple versions of Linux at the same time. This flexiblity comes at a cost, both in dollars and in speed. VMware is both more expensive and slower then Win4Lin.

Win4Lin and VMware are aimed at different sorts of users. Win4Lin is aimed at the desktop user who needs to run a few Windows applications. I use it to run MS Office, Acrobat, Framemaker, Quicken, Taxcut and up until now Quickbooks. VMware is used by datacenters to run multiple virtual machines and by developers who want to test their code in multiple environments without having keep multiple machines around.
