Subba Rao I think you have gone about this in a confabulated way, but you should be able to make a COPY (just in case) of your saved .mbx file...

Indeed. Your hypothesis is entirely correct, and as one who setup sendmail so many times I wrote a program to do it for me..I can butture you that sendmail as normally configures does not need domains to ROUTE to local addresses but will append then to unqualified addresses anyway, simply on account of there being possible ramifications when multiple internal and external recipients exists on the same message header.

I am not sure what MTA you are considering using, but its a fairly simple job to hack any of them to perform as you need.

Thunderbird its true doesn't seem to allow default domains to be added.

My experience of setting up corporate e-mail leads me to believe this is a huge advantage. The less the average user can f*** up by random mistyping the better.

The whole point of a corporate computer system is to present the user with a tight, controlled, limited well supported, well formed and completely uniform environment in which to do the work of the business.

If all the man hours that are spent by users fiddling around changing irrelevant items, and by support personnel changing them back to get them worked were eliminated along with every instance of Microsoft products, world productivity would probably double :-)
