So do I, in fact right now I am transcribing a pile of R2R tapes (circa 1980) from an ancient Otari 4 track into Nuendo. Thank God the client used Scotch and Maxell and not 456. It depends upon what the person is looking to do. If you are producing your own work it doesn't really matter what you use but if you are a working studio hoping to get work from clients using Linux isn't going to help you in that venture.

I hear this one from Linux people in various different versions all the time and I really have my doubts. Sometimes it's grandma, other times a clueless uncle and still other times a kid with no computer experience. It's starting to sound more like an urban legend kind of like alligators in the NYC sewer system.

It is about image but it isn't going to fool them for a minute.

Not really. It's a combination of talent, reputation, image and tools. Clients just don't like the unknown especially when they can go elsewhere and for the same money get a system they are used to working with.

Yes I do and it was even more controversial to use Windows instead of a Mac. It still is to some degree.

ProTools is the standard but whether it is good-great or crap belongs in the same debate as why NS-10s are the *standard* for monitoring despite their horrid sound.

Look, I don't go into development groups prostelytizing about Brief vs vi vs emacs and why one is better, trying to win converts etc. I know nothing about those things.

Linux loonies come into pro audio groups, gamer groups and so forth trying to win converts in places where Linux is simply not a viable option and they end up looking like fools. And example is when they try and compare Quickbooks to Gnumeric and wonder why accounts aren't using Linux Gnumeric instead of Quickbooks.

I agree.
