The rise of personal project studios has made just about everyone dispensable these days. Your comparison is kinda apples and oranges because your bbutt gets played and recorded. That's it. IOW the band is paying you to play. Groups coming in for a session many times want to leave with a project that can be easily worked on further in another venue if needed.

BTW I have a Steinway B and I have lost clients because they wanted Yamaha. I even had one guy ask for the serial number first. Go figure.

That's viable, but I just don't have the time to maintain 2 operating systems.

I'd never go back to R2R even though that's where I started. I don't like NS-10's and I don't run a PT studio either. I run Nuendo and Samplitude both of which I find do everything I have to do and both have been rock stable for me. I have lost clients due to not having PT but it doesn't bother me.
