That is SOP for the proponents of Linux in that they seem to think that they can shoehorn Linux into any business and it will fit perfectly. As a turnkey system where the user simply enters data (POS system for example) or a pre-setup internet kiosk Linux would be fine. However to try and integrate Linux into a professional audio production system as a workstation is asking for trouble. Linux just isn't ready for that type of work yet. Is this guy kidding 1162 No, it was not. This thread was a continuation of another thread where a user asked for advice as he... Linux proponents have a long standing and well deserved reputation for being arrogant SOBs. Not all of them, but a good portion of them. I'm not sure why, but I get the feeling that because they seem to like entering arcane 20 character commands on a command line while most people perfer to click on an icon, they somehow think they are superior. His reply is a cookbook reply that can fit into any number of different threads. No specifics are offered. The users experience in the particular field being discussed is questionable which goes back to what I said in the beginning of this post:The Linux proponents try to shoehorn Linux into areas of work where they have no experience and Linux certainly does not belong.
Is this guy kidding 1160 I agree. But the original post in this thread (neglecting the fact that at one point the breastle of this thread was changed) wanted experience with the Linux tools... I use PC's but you are correct. Also the time required to learn a new operating system, configure all the hardware and software and then end up with a far inferior system is just not worth the cost savings. It's a fact.
