Kernel panic any advice 5221Peter T. Breuer Thanks very much for your response. Actually I have several kernels available, some of which I compiled myself, eg 6.2.13, which has been working fine up to now, and some of which are "official" Fedora kernels. I get exactly the same panic whichever kernel I choose; so I buttume the problem is not kernel-specific. I don't think I did anything that could cause problems, except perhaps to run "yum update". I should admit at this point that my laptop - a fairly ancient (3-4 years old) Sony C1VFK Picturebook = has severe problems with the standard Sony CD reader (CD50). There always were problems with this under Fedora, but they have got steadily worse with each distribution. I installed FC-3 by first install Knoppix, and then installing Fedora from the hard disk, but even this did not work with FC-4, which I had to upgrade from FC-3 by changingetc-fedora-release and running "yum update". Kernel panic any advice 5222 On Wednesday 19 October 2005 01:54, Timothy Murphy stood up and spoke the following words... Otherwise I would just re-install FC-4 from CD. But the problem is a bit more difficult. As a last resort, I could take out the hard disk, and upgrade it on another machine. (I've done this a couple of time, but it is rather painful and I would like to avoid it if possible.) As always, any suggestions gratefully received. -- Timothy Murphy tel: +353-86-2336090, +353-1-2842366 s-mail: School of Mathematics, Trinity College, Dublin 2, Ireland Optimizing Fedora Core 3 5223 On Tue, 18 Oct 2005, JesusFreak OK, here are a couple of things to check.
