This is because the LCD itself is interpolating things.
The nv X module is *not* included with the kernel. It's part of X. Check its man page to find out. If nv doesn't handle the video chip appropriately, there's always the evil binary-only nvidia module, which may work better and will give you hardware-accelerated OpenGL.
