I see several links more or less backing up what privates said. I also see people who seem to have a problem reading the links and staying on topic. Whether the person is a troll or not is immaterial when the topics he presented can be backed up by links. It's the same old game in the Linux community and the name of the game is to discredit the poster instead of proving the troll wrong and this does nothing to edify Linux but only serves to make the rest of us advocates look silly by buttociation. All it takes is one fact filled post to refute, line by line, every claim Trouser made. The problem with that technique, at least in this case, is that Trouser has managed to do his homework well and has constructed a fairly decent post that will be difficult to refute based on facts because the facts are in his corner, at least for the moment. As for ATI-Nvidia and others, why on earth should they give up their trade secrets for the joy of supporting Linux? A binary driver would be fine. Nvidia has them, ATI sort of has them and others will follow in time as Linux's user base increases.
