Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2789Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2790 Lin¿nut Dear Robert, I am ashamed of the rudeness of the above reply, and many others you have... Robert Strunk schrieb: Hello Robert, Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2791 BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Robert Strunk First mistake. Until Linux is fully compatible with everything you need and use, always keep a copy of Windows just in... this is your opinion. I will give you an oposite view. My Brother and his girlfriend ar not so familar with computers. So they only use this box at home and at work to work simple work. Reading Mails, Internet, homebanking, printing fotographs, scan documents, digital camera, and so on. At work they use special business software. When the software fails they call the administrator. Both are in the mid 30's They hve no special computer interests... Due to this they once buyed a computer PIII-500 with Windows 98SE. This one worked more or less a couple of years. About once a year I made a complete new installation because the box hang often... (Win users knowes what I mean!) But since nearly one year even I was not able to bring this box to work again. Out of the blue internet fails, printer hung, PDF Bills downloaded from internet cant be read, the hell knows why. After reinstalling several times in 2 month I decided to blank the harddrive and to install SUSE 9.0 onto this maschine. If ypu belive or not It was done within 3,5hours completely! EVERYTHING works!!! Digi cam, scanning, mail, PDF, printing, sound No crash since then. And when he calls me in in my hometown 200km away because wants to use a VERY special program which is not installed I do in the same evening 200km away with remote control. They are so hapy no! But he wants to beat me because I didn't change earlier! And believe me, alone they would never be able to install Win98 properly sound, modem, internet, monitore, graphic card and so on. Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2792 We've had different experiences here. The fact that linux is not susecptible to drive-by download and installation of spyware, viruses, and other malware is seen as a huge... But I think to install SUSE 9.0 they would have had more success (I guess) So you see it depends... And we had'nt not to install a stolen new MS windows to be compatible with the files from work. (original with the computer they had Works or Office 95 home I don't remember... Regard Gerhard
