Until Linux is fully compatible with everything you need and use, always keep a copy of... Dear Robert, I am ashamed of the rudeness of the above reply, and many others you have got. You did perhaps express yourself undiplomatically, but even so your queries were reasonable ones. In the first place, I always keep a copy of Windows on any machine I own, even though I use Linux 98% of the time. In my view it is foolish to delete Windows unless one is very short of space. For example, I used Windows earlier this week to upgrade the firmware in my WiFi card. Earlier in the year I updated my Asus BIOS on another machine. I don't think either of these would be possible under Linux. I would say that Linux should be regarded as an adventure, particularly by teenagers, rather than an alternative to Windows. There are some things that one can only do on Windows, eg play Windows games, but there are many things in my opinion which are far easier to do under Linux, eg I have found it very difficult to set up a Bluetooth connection to my phone under Windows, while gnokii + bluez has worked like a charm. I would regard an operating system as a gateway into another world. The Windows world and the Linux world are very different, and there is room for both of them.
