Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2791Family Fails The Linux Test BADLY On Wed, 25 May 2005 12:22:10 -0700, Robert Strunk Can I make an observation, one Linux neophite to another? You obviously... -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Robert Strunk First mistake. Until Linux is fully compatible with everything you need and use, always keep a copy of Windows just in case. I don't use too many Web sites with plugins. Linux supports Java and Flash plugins only (to the best of my knowledge). That is why you shouldn't have wiped out WinXP, you might need it for something. I still use IE for Yahoo Launch sometimes. Not true. It just isn't automatic like AOL is, you have to manually save the icon to the hard drive and load it in gaim. I've saved messages with gaim just fine That happens with regular AIM too Not true Not familiar with Macs. I probably will never buy a Mac because they don't allow me to tinker with the hardware. Not familiar with USB storage devices, but I've heard they work just fine with Linux. I don't know what Amarok is. I had a friend tell me about Rhapsody, isn't that some kind of music streaming service? OpenOffice has its share of compatibility problems. Always keep Word-Office and a Windows parbreastion just in case you need it. What do you mean? To the best of my knowledge there's only MSN Gaming Zone and Yahoo Games. Yahoo Games works just fine, I used it just the other day. WIindows fails me BADLY, was Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY Robert Strunk .. Apparently so. But just the opposite is true for me: Windows is a waste of time. It has a horrible, pathetically weak shell, it doesn't come... I've never heard of that, usually they have a choice between WMP, Winamp, and RealPlayer options. People who value security, stability, privacy, and overall, quality. I'm not familiar with SUSE, but everyone seems to hate it and it supposedly costs money. Slackware is a really good distro, and it's free to download. Depends on what they use their computer for. Not familiar with iPods, to me they're just a pbutting, expensive fad, but if iPods depend on Windows-proprietary drivers, and the Linux-open-source alternative isn't perfect, then you should use them. Linux buttumes you have some brains in your head. Conclusion: Flatfish is back to his old tricks again. - -- - -core -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU-Linux) iD8DBQFClUGzEiTegUrvtjcRAu7cAJ9XgG5o0UIFMo6fi8vyFJTX6rT2DwCeLGsg nAwvDGmrvcEbxDRC4hHon6I= =UOwJ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- Linux Fails The Family Test BADLY! 2792 We've had different experiences here. The fact that linux is not susecptible to drive-by download and installation of spyware, viruses, and other malware is seen as a huge plus. Once again, different...
