This is really a problem with idiots who insist on writing non-standard web pages - it is the responsibility of the web master to make sure his stuff works with available browsers; but I know that's not a solution to your problem.

They should work flawlessly - mine do. If not, then there is something wrong. Do they dismount the drives before they pull them? You have to do that even with MS.

There should not be any great difficulty here. If there is, then something is not set up right.

I have installed Mandrake 10.1 with the available plugins for Mozilla on the public access internet computers at the local library. After four months there have been NO complaints. Kids are there from 2:00 in the afternoon until closing at 8:00 - mainly keeping all the computers in use. They browse the web and do their stuff without problems. We also have OpenOffice setup plus AbiWord and Gnumeric (if you're only doing word processing and spreadsheet stuff I think these are better than OO). All working without a hitch and with no complaints. The director says that before (when they used MS) she was called to the floor three or four times a day to help patrons with internet problems - now "they just run". I think you probably have a few configuration issues.
