I had not thought about it, but now that you bring it up, people think there are only Mac's and Windows machines. Now from the users' points of view, that is how most machines appear. But in both cases, you could remove the Windows software completely and install Linux (or FreeBSD, or something like those, I imagine) and get a "Linux machine."

It does not occur to most that a computer is qualitatively different from the other machines that they are familiar with. It is not a simple matter to change the user interface of a television set so it can be a Windows, Mac, or Linux machine. Similarly, it is not a simple matter to change the interface of an automobile so it can sail on the water. But all you have to do to make a comparable change in a computer is to load a new OS. And if you do it right, you do not even have to give up the old one as you can dual (or more) boot it.
