StupidScript 198.113.64.1 and 198.113.64.8 are NOT valid network boundaries for a29 subnet. 198.113.64.0-198.113.64.7 is a valid IP block for a29...

On Fri, 18 Feb 2005 19:37:39 GMT, Mark Healey staggered into the Black Sun and said:

Me, Strunk and White, and every non-crack-smoking editor of every dead-tree publication.

Pinker's not the be-all and end-all of everything. Written language changes, yes. Today, the only people who typewithoutspaces are FORTRAN programmers, and the only people who DON'T USE LOWER CASE are AOLers. But "alot" for "a lot" is *still* not accepted as grammatical by anyone who's actually learned how to write English. It may be acceptable l8r, k THX LOL OMG!

Then why did you say that the presence of the characters was a problem? Where are these characters that you're worried about, if not in the HPFS filenames? Are they in LONGNAME? If so, why didn't you say that in the first place?

Your last sentence doesn't make much sense; neither filenames nor song breastles have ID3 tags--typically, only MPEG files have ID3 tags. Did you mean "the LONGNAMEs of *.mp3 contain song breastles; file001.mp3 has LONGNAME 'Tuba Concerto 3, D Minor', and very few of the mp3 files I have contain ID3 tags"? If so, put something together with your "best shell ever" that creates a text file called "longnames.txt" that has lines like so:

# short name tab LONGNAME file001.mp3 Tuba Concerto 3, D Minor file002.mp3 Satan's Love Boogie, resttšngue # continue with file

...then make sure you have audiotag installed (probably on your distro CDs) and you can do this:

...there are Perl ID3 tagging libraries that might be more efficient and useful for this, but I'm trying to keep the whole thing simple enough for you to use. Adding the LONGNAME-reading stuff to the hpfs module is probably too much for you to tackle, and there's nothing I could find on freshmeat or sourceforge that reads arbitrary OS-2 extended attributes.
