Linux friendly internet service 3265So, your Verizon first-line tech. support people are of about the same caliber (or lack thereof) as mine. Sorry to hear that. Memory allocation problem Hi all, I seem to be having this problem allocating memory with a finite element package. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have 1GB of RAM and 2GB of hard... Reportedly, the key is to get a router with ethernet ports on the LAN side, rather than USB. The good news is it should work just fine. I just moved between two Verizon-afflicted locations, so I'm now using the new Westell modem-router Verizon is issuing. At least in my case, it defaulted to DHCP on the LAN side, so I just set up my Linux machine to use DHCP to connect to it. It worked with very little, if any, difficulty. A few questions regarding samba from a samba and windows rookie Hi I am trying to implement a simple Samba server on a Slackware 10.1 machine running for a bunch of Windows users that also... I don't believe I have used roaring penguin, whatever that is. On the WAN-DSL side, I have a dynamic IP address, so the router uses DHCP to connect to Verizon's network. Within about a minute of plugging it in, it had connected up just fine. As I already mentioned elsewhere, I had to Google to find the default first-time administrative pbuttword for the modem-router. That was because Verizon's email message giving me instructions and the pbuttword never arrived. I set up my router to use static IP addresses on the LAN side. It took a little work to find where-how to do that on the router. If you need help, please inform, and I can dig out my notebook for details. Good luck. Robert Riches (Yes, that is one of my email addresses.)
