Linux has poor multimedia features 1736Linux has poor multimedia features 1738 On Fri, 14 Jul 2006 21:29:15 +0000 (UTC), Wayne Dernoncourt staggered into the Black Sun and said: Um. This is *weird*. In a big company like IBM, though, it wouldn't... I got the Trident Blade stuff from looking through the PDF of the manual at work (I found it on IBM-Lenovo's website). I don't see any info on boot. I will look through the out. I don't have a clue on what the native size of the laptop is. I figured I was doing pretty good to find the chipset. This is running what FC4 set-up. Evidently the hardware probing didn't do such a terrific job on the video. Here are the results of lspci (slightly edited to wrap in nicer places): 00:00.0 Host bridge: Intel Corporation 82830 830 Chipset Host Bridge (rev 04) 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82830 CGC Chipset Graphics Controller (rev 04) 00:02.1 Display controller: Intel Corporation 82830 CGC Chipset Graphics Controller 00:1d.0 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA-CAM USB (Hub #1) (rev 02) 00:1d.1 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA-CAM USB (Hub #2) (rev 02) 00:1d.2 USB Controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA-CAM USB (Hub #3) (rev 02) 00:1e.0 PCI bridge: Intel Corporation 82801 Mobile PCI Bridge (rev 42) 00:1f.0 ISA bridge: Intel Corporation 82801CAM ISA Bridge (LPC) (rev 02) 00:1f.1 IDE interface: Intel Corporation 82801CAM IDE U100 (rev 02) 00:1f.3 SMBus: Intel Corporation 82801CA-CAM SMBus Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.5 Multimedia audio controller: Intel Corporation 82801CA-CAM AC'97 Audio Controller (rev 02) 00:1f.6 Modem: Intel Corporation 82801CA-CAM AC'97 Modem Controller (rev 02) 01:05.0 Network controller: Intersil Corporation Prism 2.5 Wavelan chipset (rev 01) 01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Intel Corporation 82801CAM (ICH3) PRO-100 VE (LOM) Ethernet Controller (rev 42) 01:09.0 CardBus bridge: Texas Instruments PCI1410 PC card Cardbus Controller (rev 02) So it looks like you're right about the 830 chipset (82830), I don't have a clue on how to use that information. Even though this laptop has been operational for 5 or 6 months, there are still lots and lots of things I don't know much about (like video and audio set-up, etc.) I figure that once the video and audio are correctly configured I would configure X using xconfig. BTW, audio seems to work sometimes and sometimes it doesn't, then again it could just be that the app's I've been using are quiet. Linux has poor multimedia features 1737 Dances With Crows *IF* we are talking about DVD playback (and I have 3 separate DVD Playback apps installed-available for 98 -- all using the same Cinema Codec to decipher(mpeg2) and tranfer (using DMA... -- Take care This clown speaks for himself, his job doesn't Wayne D. pay for this, etc. (directly anyway)
