Windows' file explorer take several seconds to return control to the user when opened. I wouldn't be surprised if it still doesn't crash when a bad CD is inserted. Never saw windows able to read any other file systems either. Linux can read nearly any if not all file systems.

There is a difference. Also, try opening Open Office again, once it has been run once. It opens nearly instantly. One won't see that with MS Office products.
