Tony, I bought my wife a used Compaq Armada M700 and installed Mandriva LE2005 on it. The only thing that doesn't work is the internal "youlosemodem", but I didn't even try to get that to work as we use a SOHO LAN in our home that is on always-on ADSL with a D-Link router serving the LAN. I got her a Linksys PCMCIA network card (not wireless), plugged it in and setup dhcp-client for her. It just works. Since I had already cabled the house with Cat5e there was no need to fuss with wireless.

Heh, I just changed the OS's right out from under my wife. Went from 'doze 3.1 to OS-2 at first. She yelled at me but got over it once she became comfortable with OS-2. Then I moved mostly to OSS and Linux distributions. She's now very comfortable with KDE on Mandriva Linux. She can even play some old 'doze games she loves using WINE (still trying to figure out how to get MYST to work for her). As far as I am concerned she'll be using a Linux distribution from now on. ;-)
