Microsoft Hatred FAQ 5143Microsoft Hatred FAQ 5144 On Sat, 15 Oct 2005 22:28:02 -0700, David Schwartz Within rather broad limits, you can put any tyre you like on your car, but it is not practical to change your engine... Tor Iver Wilhelmsen Well, I had a Lotus model 26 sports car, made in England. If had an engine, originally made by Ford, that they redesigned a bit. They took off the cylinder head and put a twin cam head and two Weber carburettors on it. Got 105 HP out of it. But if you did not like that, you could stick a 200HP BRM (race car) engine in it instead. Motor mounts, transmission, etc., all had the same geometry, so it was just a remove the old and bolt in the new. I recognize this is not typical. In 2000 I bought a machine from VA Linux Systems that came with only Linux (Red Hat Linux 6.0, IIRC) in it. They had no arrangement with Microsoft. If a customer wanted dual boot with Windows, VA Linux Systems went to a nearby dealer and bought a retail CD-ROM of the current version of Windows and installed it, charging the retail price for the licenced copy (and maybe a little for labor, but if so it wasn't much). Unfortunately, they do not make hardware anymore. -- .~. Jean-David Beyer Registered Linux User 85642.
