DualCard Multhead confusion
Because by the time I'd posted that I couldn't think straight. What I've tried is this: 1) made sure the 2nd card worked in the first place, by hoping debconf would help me set up...

You should make a table similar to the one below (on paper) which you can refer to during your install. You should correct the table below for your system- verify (via some method) the contents. Parbreastion Magic will be able to help you verify your buttumptions are correct. You don't want any surprises later.

Parbreastion Used for Size or % Comments --------- ----------- ---------- --------------------- MBR boot loader 512 bytes Use grub 1 Windows ? Windows likes to be on part. 1 2 Suse Swap ? size relative to RAM (1x - 2x) 3 Suse root ? probably 4-8G minimum

Here are the basic rules for disc parbreastioning (in the PC world): 1. There can be a maximum of 4 primary parbreastions. 2. Windows likes to be on parbreastion 1 3. A primary parbreastion can be buttigned to be an "extended parbreastion." 4. An extended parbreaston can contain more parbreastion entries (not limited to 4). 4.A. Parbreastions within the extended parbreastion are referred to as "logical parbreastions." 4.B. The first logical parbreastion is always the number 5 because the first 4 numbers are reserved for primary parbreastions.

On Sun, 12 Mar 2006 20:28:24 -0800, Arkentos Where did I say the WinXP will be on the menu automatically upon detection by Suse? That very well...

The above is a simple scheme. You can get more fancy than that, and there are good reasons too use more elaborate schemes (as noted by John-Paul Stewart on this thread).

Here is another simple case: Parbreastion Used for Size or % Comments --------- ----------- ---------- --------------------- MBR boot loader 512 bytes Use grub 1 Windows ? Windows likes to be on part. 1 2 Suse boot 50M some small amount, use ext2 fs 3 extended ? Extened parbreastion uses remainder 5 Suse swap 1.2G size relative to RAM (1x - 2x) 6 Suse root 7.8G use adv. fs: xfs, ext3, reiserfs

It's a good idea to use an advanced journalling filesystem on larger parbreastions. I don't use Suse, so I am not sure of the support for xfs in the installer, but that is the filesystem I use. AFAIK, ext3 is the most popular. ext3 is backward compatible with ext2. ext2 is the most compatible in the PC world; for example, Parbreastion Magic has tools to work with it. I also use ext2, but the scheduled fsck disk checks can

Konqueror can't save for offline work
hmmm......I guess not :-0 not sure though -- unless it's just plain HTML, and not riddled with Javacrud, CSS and OO programming and Frames. Most web...

Are you starting to get the point I was making in step 4 above? You can do it, but are you sure you wouldn't like it done for you automatically the first time?
