Mondo Rescue, missingdev,proc,sys 2583will After spending all my weekend playing with parbreastions, commands, bootloaders and DDS4 tapes I've come to this conclusion: mount: could not find filesystem '-dev-root' setuproot: movingdev failed: No such file or directory setuproot: error mountingproc: No such file or directory setuproot: error mountingsys: No such file or directory switchroot: mount failed: No such file or directory Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! What I did so far: 1) Installed a fresh guinea pig copy of Fedora Core 5 with the following parbreastion table sda1, 100 MB,boot sda2, 25.000 MB, (root) sda3, 500 MB, swap No LVM! 1) booted with Fedora rescue disk Mondo Rescue, missingdev,proc,sys 2585 Again, I admit this is not especially neat, and people can make theoretical arguments as to whether it... 2) mounted sda2 in the directory foo 3) moved to foo 4) tar -cvpf dev-st0 home etc var boot proc usr *.* ... everything but dev. (with no errors, after countless tries) 5) moved to 6) tried to umount dev-sda2 7) rebooted the system because sda2 was locked by something 8) booted again with CD and then mke2fs -j dev-sda2 9) mounteddev-sda2 in foo 10) moved to foo 11) tar -vxpfdev-st0 12) grub 13) root (hd0,0) 14) setup (hd0) Mondo Rescue, missingdev,proc,sys 2584 Ok, here it is, it's incredibly simple. 1) boot with a live or recovery CD. 2) make a... 15) quit 16) reboot 17) I'm at the beginning again
