Sony AIT2 tape drive, modprobe st found nothing
John-Paul Stewart Here is what a different (Exabyte VXA-2) tape drive does on...

Problems with a machine that has an Adaptec 29160 and a SCSI tape drive;dev-st0 is not reachable, the drive does not show up inproc-scsi-scsi

Eh? This is the output from lsmod, not "lsmode.txt". Details are really important; consider the difference between "rm -f *.tmp" and "rm -f * .tmp".

Everything unrelated to the problem at hand snipped

Where's the module that drives the SCSI card? Did you build it in to the kernel? Don't do that unless your is on a SCSI disk. If aic7love is built in to the kernel, you should see something like

ec00-ecff : Adaptec AIC-7892A U160-m

The Reasons I hate Open Source Software and Love MS
Those who rely on Open Source software always seem to get burned. When I was a redhat RHN customer...

when you do "grep Adaptecproc-ioports". If it isn't, you need to modprobe it. Do that and try the tape drive again.

This isn't real SCSI; this is fake SCSI for the SATA controller.

Try modprobing the module for your SCSI card. "modprobe aic7love", then see what "mt -fdev-st0 status" says.

Sounds decent. Just get that aic7love modprobed and you'll probably be OK.
