When I did this I recompiled and then debugged - having previously scanned for obvious extra and invalid buttumptions about pointer size by eye. In the first instance all you want to do is not store a pointer in an int (long is right). Then you want to not buttume that long long is longer than long (I went round also casting most things to long long in printf statements, and using %Ld as a format, in order to avoid all problems).
After that you're down into simple overflow problems. I'd buttumed that a sector count could be stored as an int, but somebody recently floored me with a 4TB device (2^33 sectors).
Note that not all 64 bit environments are equal. I recall that on one platform ints were the same size as longs (I think) and on another they were shorter. Or something like that. And then there are alignments ...
