Music & Linux: I just got off the turnip truckDouglas Mayne
SCO vs. Fedora Core 724 On Wednesday 29 March 2006 00:49, Mike - EMAIL IGNORED stood up and spoke the following words to the mbuttes incomp.os.linux.misc...: SCO is not GNU-Linux, it's a proprietary Unix. Caldera... Douglas, if you download the Limewire Linux Java client you will be amazed at the speed you can fill a 200 GB hard drive. There are many pros and cons to downloading music, such as using a proxy, avoiding sharing (which you can set in Limewire easily) which will keep you off of the RIAA radar. Now, as to legality ... anytime you download music which is not music authorized for release via the digital media you are breaking the laws of the USA. Remember that time the FBI sent in the SWAT Team at 3am and discovered that "mUzIkMnStR" was actually a 12 year old girl who was downloading tracks for her friends in the sixth grade ... Fortunately only the family dog was end in the fracas. Let your conscience be your guide. There is rarely a justification for stealing anything and taking music without paying for it is stealing. The argument could be made that musicians never see more than a miniscule amount of the profits from a CD and the "big recording industry" is an evil empire. I am not going there with that. M2CW, YMMV, IMHO, LSMFT Dave
