MySQL permission 3713

We're talking about MySQL pbuttwords and MySQL users and MuSQL access rights not Linux administration. You talk about it being "general Linux sysadmin" stuff. It just plain isn't.

It can be done. It's just that the steps listed in the MySQL docs aren't sufficient and-or accurate.

I still don't think you understand which problem we're talking about. I don't see what "firing up ssh and logging in" has to do with the problem at hand. Logging in isn't the problem. The problem is what steps are required to create users, buttign pbuttwords, and grant access to specific users from specfic IP addresses to specific databases.

Because the MySQL docs left out steps that were required.

There are no config files involved. We're talking about the MySQL commands used to create MySQL users, MySQL pbuttwords, and grant those users access to tables and databases.

I was on a Debian system, but that's immaterial. It's internal MySQL stuff we're talking about, not Linux system administration.

Could be, but judging by the number of people I ran across having the same problems, it's not just me.
