out there. Gimp-print's printer drivers are (as far as I'm concerned) as good as the Windows drives, and Turboprint (www.turboprint.de) has excellent Epson printer support.

I'm afraid you're SOL with this -- someone once gave me a Visioneer scanner, but I was never able to get it to do anything in linux, and my correspondence with Visioneer suggested that they had absolutely no interest in supporting linux, even if it only meant making their device specs available to open source developers so linux drivers could be developed independently.

I'm not familiar with either of these, but there's a good chance that there are analogous programs you could use. Most decent crypto in the Win32 world seems to have its roots in the *nix world, after all.

It's a good idea to check hardware compatibility before making judgments. And be aware that although your familiar software may not be availble in linux, other software that can do the same tasks often is available. Try some of the alternatives before jumping to conclusions.
