NTP daemon not synchronizingI seem to be unable to get ntp to work with Slackware 10.1, and I just want to find out if anybody has encountered similar problems. I have three boxes A, B and C in my LAN. A has two network interfaces, one connected to my LAN, the other to the world. A gets its time synchronization from external servers, and acts as a time server for B and C. Box B is running Slackware 10.0, and gets its synchronization from A without any problems. Box C is running Slackware 10.1 (the default, bare.i 2.4.29 kernel) and can't get its synchronization from A at all (A is running Slackware 8.1.) When attempting to obtain information about C's peers, by issuing the ntpq -p command at C, the command hangs for a few seconds, and invariably returns 127.0.0.1: timed out, nothing received ***Request timed out The same command in B gives remote refid st t when poll reach delay offset jitter ============================================================================== LOCAL(0) LOCAL(0) 10 l 32 64 377 0.000 0.000 0.008 *love.love yyy.yyy.yyy 3 u 10 64 377 1.536 17.049 0.324 (I use love and yyy instead of the actual names printed out there, for privacy reasons.) Obvious (to me) root causes for this problem can be discarded: Teaching Mathematics Sorry the "crazy" crossposting. I hope the reason for this will be apparent further below in the post. I haven't set any followup-to, since I don't know what kind of follow ups I... Teaching Mathematics Gerry Quinn I'm afraid so. I hoped to relate it a bit towards the coordinate system and a... 1) The ntpd daemon is up and running on the three boxes. 2) The ntpd daemon configuration file in C is identical with that in B. 3) A is fully accessible from B and C: ping, rlogin, ssh etc. in between those boxes work flawlessly. Suggestions, anyone?
