Networking and file saving with KnoppixnotPythias
I'm trying to figure out what problem you're having...Saving Network config? while using Knoppix and win98SE? Have you been to (forums) and read all the helpful info (wiki, FAQ, etc) over at knoppix.net ? External FAT32 drive USB1.1 problems yes, more than one OK, here they are, wonder if anyone's got any answers for me? 1. moving large numbers... Linux uses "ifconfig" instead of ipconfig or winipcfg -- for wireless use "iwconfig" It's fine to use Static IPs and port forwarding and using uTorrent, but knoppix likes to autodetect and set up DHCP usually. However I'm sure you can reconfigure this once inside. In Knoppix - Create a "Persistent Home Dir" on your HDD somewhere -- this will let knoppix save and store config settings-changes. Boot using cheatcodes -- look If you insist on using a LiveCD for awhile, then install the ISO to HDD using the "tohd", and then booting using "fromhd" cheatcodes. This will free up your optical drive (CD-DVD)...Once in, look under utilities for "Create persistent HOME dir" - so now you'll have ahome dir on your HDD, but knoppix saves this as "knoppix.sh" and "configs.tbz" - atleast in 3.6 it did. There are a gazillion networking tools in there to help config your setup...see knoppix.net for more -- I'm rusty with Knoppix - I dual-boot using Debian and win98. Note about File sharing; Back in 3.6, I had to do (something like) this below (use an xterm, or Konsole, or one of the gettys) to get "write" ability (Copy, Edit, Save) for any of my win98 files -- even just to add stuff to the parbreastion while in Linux. mkdirmnt-tmp #make a DIR for mounting win98 parbreastion mount -t vfat -o rw,uid=knoppixdev-hdXYmnt-tmp #mount the win98 parbreastion at the created mount point Download photos automatically 1910 well on the camera there are two modes: 1. Mbutt storage 2. PTP I don't use the mbutt... (NOTE:dev-hdXY where XY is a variable, where X is the allocated HDD letter (a,b,c,d,..), and Y is the parbreastion number on that device (1,2,3,4,5, ....). This applies to internal IDE-ATA drives -- USB external and SATA drives are named a bit differently as are SCSI drives Keep us informed; Regards
